AbstractSandy silt or loam has been used in previous rill erosion research. Nevertheless, few studies have investigated rill development and erosion mechanics in clayey soil. The physical properties of clayey soil differ substantially
from those of other types of soils. Therefore, this study employed rainfall simulations to conduct experiments
on remolded clayey soil to investigate the effects of slope and volumetric soil water contents on rill evolution, headward retreat rate, and sediment yield. Additionally, this study utilized high-resolution laser topographic scanning to analyze sediment delivery ratios. An equation for estimating the unit-area rill erosion sediment yield of clayey soils was derived using multiple regression analysis.
